WORKSHOPS
Over two workshop days at Tocal Homestead's historic forge, eight community participants worked alongside artist-blacksmith Will Maguire, learning traditional forging techniques and creating their own forged bells.
Filmmaker Jonathan Burrows captured the process on film, while sound artist Huw Jones recorded the acoustic world of the forge — the strike of hammer on anvil, the breath of the bellows, the hiss of quenching steel. The sounds of the bells forged during the workshops have been recorded by Huw and form part of the final soundscape.
Visiting blacksmith Steve Gale also contributed his considerable expertise, driving from Wauchope to lend his skills to the project. The workshops were sold out with a waiting list — a testament to the community's appetite for connection with this living craft tradition.
